Up until October 2008 all bikes used for touring in Thailand were imported bikes from Japan as no big bike manufacturers were building in Thailand. These bikes were expensive and most importantly due to the high tax rates many were not legally registered.
In a flash of coincidence, around the same time Kawasaki decided to build in Thailand (the only manufacture still to this day) the Thai government decided to reign in the unregistered bikes slapping huge fines on riders with unregistered imports. Subsequently many old imported bikes slowly left the roads of Thailand replaced by brand new fully legal Kawasaki machines. Possibly a coincidence but either way Thailand is now the only country in mainland South East Asia with quality affordable bikes built to EU & US specs at affordable prices.
Motorbike Thailand were one of the first to jump on the new bike bandwagon and operated our first tour with new machines in November 2008 and have been doing so ever since. Our oldest bikes were registered in October/November 2008 and in January 2010 we registered two more.
Our dual terrain tours utilize the Kawasaki KLX 250, yes, we wish they were 400's but as yet this is not an option as yet however, once the bikes were de-regulated we and our customers have found them to be ultra reliable and well suited to the terrain. On road the stock tyres are also well suited and they actually handle extremely well on the tight switchbacks and hairpins. Any lack of power is only noticed on main highway work which is generally avoided on our tours but even so a top speed of around 125 KPH is more than enough for Northern Thailand's roads.
Our available fleet includes also the Kawasaki D Tracker a super Motard version of the KLX which rides as if on rails on the inordinate amount of bends here in Thailand and for longer tours on more open roads we also have available the 650cc Kawasaki ER6 and for those looking for a sprightly little sports number we also have the Ninja 250.
