FAQ Riding Motorcycles in Thailand

Your questions answered
On set pre -arranged motorcycle tours we use Honda and Yamaha Enduro bikes and mix road riding with off road however, the off road riding will be suitable for most experienced riders with little or no of road experience.  For tailor made tours and ground support  we are able to arrange road bikes riding road only but in our opinion riding in this region and not venturing into the jungles is much like visiting Egypt and not seeing the Pyramids!  Enduro bikes are the most popular machines in Northern Thailand and offer comfortable riding over the many variable road and off road surfaces.

What is included in the tour price?

Unless otherwise stated we include accommodation, breakfast, bike hire, tour leader, licensed Thai guide, fuel and oil, Chiang Mai airport transfers and support vehicle.  When you reserve a tour we will clearly state what is included if different than mentioned here.

How much are flights?

Impossible to say depending on the airline and the time you are flying.  We suggest you visit our flight page with many options for booking flights online.  Alternatively we are able to make flight bookings for you included in your tour package please contact us regarding this. Please do not book flights until your motorcycle tour has been confirmed.

Will I need a Visa?

In most cases a free 30 day visa is granted on arrival into Thailand providing you tell us the passport you are holding we will confirm if a visa will be required.  Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam will require a visa please speak to us about this or check your local embassy of consulate.

What should I bring?

We are able to supply a helmet but unable to guarantee if it will fits as comfortable as your own.  Most customers bring their own gear.  A list of everyday items and clothing required will be sent to you when you have been booked onto a tour.

Can novice riders come on tour?

No!  Thailand is not suitable as a motorcycle practice ground!  We have had people tell us they are experienced riders only to find they were definitely not.   If you are inexperienced and deemed a danger to yourself,  the rest of the group and other road users you will be asked to ride in our support truck without redemption of tour cost and be liable for any expenses incurred. Please do not apply if you are a novice.  Minimum 3 years riding experienced is usually required.

Do we stay in the same hotel each night?

No every evening we stay in a different hotel / resort as we usually cover a considerable distance through the tour.

Do you do 1 day tours?

No!  1 day is not enough to enjoy a decent ride.  Our tours are a minimum of 6 days!

Can I take a pillion?

For tailor made tours and ground support yes you may take a pillion depending on the style of tour decide to do.  there are some restrictions however concerning the few off road sections.  Please see here for more information

Can non riders come?

Non riders are welcome on our tours and we are able to make special arrangements either to ride in or support truck following the tour or we can arrange luxury car hire self drive or with driver plus many more options.  Please speak to us about this

Is bike damage insurance included?

Yes!  our bikes all come with limited damage insurance with an option to upgrade.  This will all be mentioned before a reservation is made.

What is the minimum age to ride a tour?

25 years old is the minimum with at least 3 years motorcycle experience.

Do I need a license?

If you hold a full Car license you are OK to ride in Thailand as a specific motorcycle license is not required for tourists however, you will need to obtain an international license from the AA, RAC or post office.

I ride competition MotoX will your tours suit me?

Probably not!  Our tours are mostly ridden by people that are more interested in enjoying the scenery and culture rather than the bike being the main focus of the holiday.  Off road is gentle pace riding and probably wont suit someone wanting to get the bike in the air.

Do you deal with clubs or organizations?

Yes!  In the past we have been contacted by professional photographers wanting to get to remote places, Film crews needing ground support and large Motorcycle groups needing total control of the tour or project.  In this instance we recommend ground support services which offers more flexibility and can save you a great deal on money and we make arrangements for you to work with your organization.

This service is especially used by MC clubs for annual rides and charity rides where we make all the arrangements but you are in control of the tour with our guidance.  For large groups of 6 or more this can save a lot of time and money using us to make the arrangements
