PDF Print E-mail

Thailand's Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Friday that order has been restored in Bangkok and the nation's provinces, after an offensive to shut down anti-government protests.

"We have restored order in the capital of Bangkok and the provinces of Thailand," Abhisit said in a nationally televised address, but said there was much work to be done to bring about reconciliation.

"We will continue to swiftly restore normalcy and we recognise that as we move ahead there are huge challenges ahead of us, particularly the challenge of overcoming the divisions that have occurred in this country," he said.

17th May Bangkok Violence Update
PDF Print E-mail

After a bad 24 hours of trouble on the streets of Bangkok it seems that the trouble has changed from boiling point to a quiet simmer.  Late in the day the Red Shirt gave the impression of holding out an olive branch to the Royal Thai Army and we certainly hope their words are genuine and the Government at least give them a chance to stand by their statements.

We would like to re-iterate from previous updates that the situation is only confined to a relatively small area of Bangkok and has not affected any region we tour including Chiang Mai city, Mae Hong Son province and The Golden Triangle with no danger to tourists visiting these areas.   Suavarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok) is situated a long way outside of Downtown Bangkok and the airport is operating as normal.

If you are travelling to Chiang Mai by air we advise to avoid travel outside of the confines of Suavarnabhumi airport and transfer direct to Chiang Mai airport by one of the 16 flights a day serviced by Thai Airways, Nok Air, Bangkok Airways, Airasia or One Two Go.

Our tours are still operating as normal however we will update you on any new happenings and should the situation change for the worse and affect the Northern regions to a degree that would be a danger to us or our customers we will post details on our homepage.  Updated 03:17 18/05/10

14th May Recent unrest in Thailand

The recent unrest in Thailand has escalated today and all of us here in Thailand are hoping this is the final push to settle the current occupation of central Bangkok by the 'Red Shirt' supporters.

We would like to re-iterate from previous updates that the situation is only confined to a relatively small area of Bangkok and has not affected any region we tour including Chiang Mai city, Mae Hong Son province and The Golden Triangle with no danger to tourists visiting these areas.   Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok) is situated a long way outside of Downtown Bangkok and the airport is operating as normal.

Life here in the north carries on as normal with the most annoying factor being the current heatwave we are being subjected to at present without a single drop of rain for months.

Hotter than a snakes backside in a compost heap
PDF Print E-mail

10th April 2010 and the hot season is well and truly underway.  The mercury hit our office at 102 degrees in the shade today and it's expected to get even hotter.  Despite all of us here at Motorbike Thailand love riding, tomorrow we are taking a short 300 kilometer trip and  not looking forward to it...Riding in this temperature is no fun for anyone hence the reason we never run tours in March and April.

What They Said

Cathy and I talked about this trip on the way home, and we're both in agreement that this Thailand trip has been the most fun out of all we've taken.  Every aspect of it was enjoyable. You guys were not only professional, but totally cool to hang out with, riding or not.  I particularly enjoyed the informal history lessons for every area we rode through.  And we would both like to thank you for encouraging us out of our comfort zone (street), and onto the dirt roads.  I'm starting to feel like street riding is  fun and cool, but off-road would be a lot more fun!

I hope having two female riders hasn't discouraged you off from having more in the future.  Honestly, I was kind of worried that we would not be tough enough for you guys, or that we'd whine too much about girl things, like bugs.  I'm definitely coming back for another ride, and I'm going to take off-road lessons!
