Recent Protests

With Thailand making the news again with the recent 'Red Shirt' protests we thought we would offer some feedback to travelers considering taking a motorbike Tour or general tour/holiday in the North from the front line...

As it stands at the moment (April 28th 2010) and after arriving back today from a recent Thailand holiday with friends of ours at no point during our 10 day holiday did we witness any protests and this included visiting, Mae Hong Son province, Chiang Rai city and outer provinces and Chiang Mai!  Life is carrying on as normal albeit with less tourists due to the recent European flight chaos.

To put things into perspective; Thailand is a country of over 514,000 square kilometers and the violent protests seen recently on major news networks is happening mainly within a 4 square kilometer of Bangkok.  Flights coming into Thailand usually arrive into Suavarnabumi Airport (Bangkok) and here the airport is operating as normal.  We recommend that you avoid downtown Bangkok if possible or fly domestic from Bangkok direct to Chiang Mai for those visiting the north of the country.

Things could change as it has been said this could escalate into civil war and expand beyond Bangkok however we doubt it will come to that however, we will update this with information as much as we can and we will inform you of any circumstances that we feel would jeopardize your safety or your enjoyment however at present apart from this visiting downtown Bangkok life carries on un-hindered.

We are all looking forward to the powers that be to put an end to this 'bullying' politics we have have been seeing over the past 4 years!

What They Said

I managed to find myself neck high in the river without my motorbike between my legs.  I bore the brunt of a few quips from the boys because of that but had a fantastic time.  The routes we took were way off the beaten track and the other guys in the group were a joy to ride with.  Hope to be back again for another tour.  Thanks Andy for a great time!
