The Location
Mae Hong Son is one of Thailand's largest and least populated provinces a 14,000, square kilometer region of pristine forest in Thailand's largest mountain range the Shan Hills with peaks rising to 2,005 meters (6,578 ft).
Mae Hong Son lies to the west of Chiang Mai nestled in a mountain valley often covered in mist. Due to its isolated location and lush jungles, it makes the ideal destination for off-road motorcycle touring.
The Ride
Compared to some of our other tours this is a more relaxed journey offering an adventurous riding experience in deep jungles through bamboo lined creeks and high mountain trails or we can downgrade the off road sections to suit your riding ability.
We've added a touch of luxury part way through and a chance to experience Thai rural life off the bikes. You'll ride through many ethnic tribal villages including the Lisu, Hmong, Padong and the humble Karen tribe, our hosts on the evening of your first days ride where we stay in a traditional rural village in a wooden hilltribe lodge high in the mountains
Off The Bikes
Mae Hong Son province has relatively low tourism offering the rare luxury to explore much of the region undisturbed by mainstream tourists.
You will stay in unique locations in picturesque comfortable boutique resorts and we've included a full day off the bikes staying in a higher end resort with the option to explore the city and region on bikes or just relax by the outdoor pool utilising the resorts facilities and enjoying the stunning landscape.
Ready For More?
We'll let you in on a secret...This tour is based on our Burma Border Tour but with the trails downgraded a little to suit less experienced riders however we can change this tour on the fly if needed.
A lot of people join this tour and as their experience grows we can add a few more exciting trails on the fly so, if you're a little worried about your ability fear not, providing you can handle a bike with relative ease we've got you covered for a tour probably beyond your expectations. On the flip side - If your group are struggling off road it can be altered on the fly into a road tour with very little off road.
